How does GRASS FED tallow affect your skin?
Posted by Hanna Savioja onThe tallow of cows that graze freely and eat only grass has solved many skin care challenges that have been going on for a long time. This is largely due to tallow's optimal fatty acid profile and similarity to our own skin. Many have noticed that Grass fed tallow creams strengthen the skin's protective barrier, prevent inflammation and help the skin to regenerate.
Grass-fed beef tallow contains plenty of skin-friendly fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins A, D, K, E and B12, as well as skin-friendly fatty acids, such as alpha-linolenic, linolenic, palmitic and stearic acids.
It is good to be aware that similar vitamins and fatty acids produced in a synthetic laboratory will never reach the same level of quality and absorbability as the vitamins and fatty acids naturally in bioactive form in tallow.
5 reasons why GRASS FED tallow cream is so good for your skin
-
High omega 3 content ( Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids are in a ratio of 1:1 ) strengthens the skin's protective barrier and offers help, e.g. helps with eczema, atopy and rosacea.
-
Natural phytonutrients smooth lines, moisturize the skin and make the skin plump . Antioxidant phytonutrients (e.g. carotenoids) also help reduce skin inflammation.
-
The rich diversity of the microbiome supports the overall health of the skin. Many conventional skin care products even interfere with the microbial activity of the skin (preservatives, strong alcohols and hormone disruptors).
-
Contains bioactive retinol, which is the best form of vitamin A for human skin. Read more here . Help e.g. acne and premature aging.
-
High vitamin E content. Strong antioxidant content, supposed to prevent the breakdown of collagen, which keeps the skin looking young and elastic. Vitamin E deficiency can appear on your skin as normal skin dryness, inflammation of oily skin and pimples.
Did you know that synthetic and animal-derived retinol work differently with the sun? Synthetic retinol is often a sun sensitizer. The tallow's retinol, on the other hand, promotes vitamin D synthesis in your skin. The tallow cream is therefore a good support product for those who enjoy the sun and supports the function of your skin's protective barrier. Tallow balm can also be used without worry without fear of retinol overdose.

What does it matter if the animal ate grass or grain?
Grass and meadow vegetation is the species-typical food for ruminants and is still the main food for animals in Finland, but in the meat and dairy industry grain and/or rapeseed etc.-containing feed is almost always used as a supplement. Grain and canola are often preferred because it is cheaper and increases the animal's mass faster.
Glyphosate is a big problem in the production of grain and canola/rapeseed fodder
It has been found to cause harm to the body of both animals and humans, the microbiota of the soil and not to mention pollinators. Glyphosate residues have also been found in meat and animal tallow, as it is characteristic of glyphosate to bind precisely to fatty tissue. This is why grass fed tallow is a better option for your skin as well.
You can listen to more on the subject in a comprehensive Finnish-language podcast called Kuulopuhetta, which can be listened to for free on spotify. The link to the Glyphosate episode can be found here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3vePn5ntcHl5YOJQilWWOj
Further research on the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed animals. In an extensive study by the Bionutrient Institute, The Beef Project ( https://www.bionutrientinstitute.org/beef ), which began in 2021, the muscle tissue and fat of grass-fed and grain-finished beef were compared from start to finish.
By supporting domestic grass-fed beef production, you are also supporting domestic small producers, the vitality of our soil and the animals' opportunity to live a species-typical life!
