Guest column: Hair loss and how I overcame it

Hi, I'm a natural cosmetics blogger who has passed the 30-year-old age limit. I have a professional degree in the field of beauty care, as well as several attended courses and trainings over the years. In addition to beauty care, sustainable development is close to my heart and I have been studying it for 4.5 years. You can find my blog on Instagram under the moniker: tiia.henriksson
Three years ago, I looked at myself sadly in the mirror after a shower. Every time I combed my hair, I would end up with a bunch of it in my hand. Having once graduated as a hairdresser, I remembered that humans also have so-called there is a hair loss cycle, but the hair is in the resting and growth phase at different times, so we shouldn't necessarily notice this so-called hair loss time so clearly.
I got worried.
Time passed, but my hair loss problem did not subside - on the contrary
In addition to my hair loss which was on the rise, I also started to experience scalp itching and greasiness. I've had a dry rather than oily scalp all my life, so I knew deep down that I was causing my new problems by doing something different than before.
I did the so-called blockage test and diagnosed myself with sudden or telogen hair loss.
The blockage test is performed as follows:
- Take a bunch of hair between your index finger and thumb and lightly pin.
- Do the test on several different parts of the scalp.
- If 0-4 hairs fall out at a time when plugging, it is still normal, but a larger amount indicates hair loss.
I wondered for a long time what has changed. I've always used some kind of shampoo and conditioner, so it couldn't be any single product. After all, my hair was "used" to the ever-changing treatments and products, and there have never been problems like this before.
I ate the same as before, I was stressed the same as before, I took the same medicines as before, and still I had tampons in my hand after every shower.
I am ashamed to admit in retrospect that in those days, I stepped into all the pitfalls that I should have known to avoid as a hairdresser.
First, I tried to control the oiliness of my hair by washing my hair more often. Well, that only made them even more oily, when the hydrolipid membrane of the skin was disrupted by excessive washing, and it just started to get oily even more and faster. Just as the face does in the worst case, if you wash it with products that are too strong for yourself! Yes, I_know_this!
After that I got it into my head - literally, that maybe the hair loss is because the hair is not nourished enough and it breaks from its bad condition. Nothing but numerous hair masks from the store and a satisfied look on my face when the silicone made my hair slip in my hands like a cat's hair! In those moments, it didn't even bother me that my hair was as long as my head and without volume as it could be, because it was so "good to be" now!
The hair loss did not stop - just as you might expect
Around the same time, I started using only natural cosmetics for my skin care. After a while, I also changed the hair care products to natural cosmetics and solved a new problem for myself. Now the lengths of my hair also felt close.
However, I had decided for ideological reasons and after educating myself that Natural Cosmetics was the only option for me and that's why I persisted with the products. This was already rewarded a few weeks later, when this aforementioned closeness disappeared from my hair. Yes!
Time passed and I noticed that my hair didn't get so greasy anymore.
I was satisfied.
Due to the above-mentioned ideological reasons, I also finally started to try cosmetic products sold in pieces instead of the ones in bottles. Less garbage, more product and, on top of that, so easy to carry!
I cheered.
It wasn't long before I started noticing changes in my hair and scalp. The volume I craved appeared in my mouse-tail hair. My hair was also easier to handle, because it was no longer so unnaturally slippery, but wonderfully flexible and bouncy. I also noticed that my hair loss was reduced.
So what's up with my hair today, after this long journey?
My hair hasn't magically turned into a horse's mane, but I can honestly say that at the end of this three-year journey, I have found a product that I love, that has helped with dry scalp care, and that has finally calmed my scalp.
The name of the product is Kolme Cosmetics K ehäkukka + Citrus -Palashampoo.
What I especially like about this shampoo is that it contains dry oils with a fat profile that minimize oil and soap residues remaining on the surface of the hair. It also truly nourishes my hair and scalp and is not just a placebo. Calendula-Palashampoo is also gentle and I especially appreciate that fact, because I remember what a product that washes too hard does to me.
When will your journey towards a healthier scalp begin? Take the tips from here and get there easier than me ;)
xoxo
